What to buy and where?
Shopping for you new baby can be confusing, and lots of products advertised for hedgies are not safe for them. Here is a quick click guide with all the links to our favorite hedgie safe products.
Cage & Supplies
We use 110 qt totes for all out hedgies. They hold in heat very well. They do not have bars so no climbing. They are also very easy to keep clean.
Providing a warm, snuggly, and safe hiding place is very important.
A hedgie safe will is a must have. These wheels are AMAZING!
Food bowls should be shallow and heavy. Hedgies love to flip their bowls.
Water bottles should be cleaned and refilled daily. These are my favorite, they hang well in totes, and you are able to adjust the height easily.
Food & Feeding
I feed a mixture of 3 different kibbles. Inception Dry Cat Food Chicken Recipe, Inception Dry Cat Food Turkey & Herring Recipe, and Tender & True Antibiotic-Free Turkey & Brown Rice Recipe. 2 TBSP every night and discard anything left in the bowl the next morning.
Toppers and additives are a very important part of your hedgies diet. I add pokey potion Sundays & Wednesdays. Bugs on Mondays & Saturdays. Freeze dried toppers Tuesdays, Thursdays & Fridays.
Baths & Grooming
Baths are recommended for monthly. While giving your hedgie a bath is a good time to trim nails as well. Some hedgies will need nail trims more often the once a month. If that is the case, I suggest giving you hedgie their favorite bug/treat to keep them distracted while you give them a quick trim.
Bonding & Toys
Bonding and socialization is a special time with your hedgie. Snuggle sacks are a great way to hang out with your baby while keeping them warm. Toys are an amazing way to provide stimulation for your hedgies.
